‘Gotham’ season 2 spoilers: Morena Baccarin officially series regular

Gotham -Sure, many of you probably assumed that this particular slice of “Gotham” news was coming, but isn’t it better to have the official word right now?

As first reported by TVLine, Morena Baccarin is going to be a series regular for the upcoming second season in her role as Dr. Leslie Thompkins, one that originated a little earlier this year. Her story began with her working inside of Arkham, but she eventually started to romance Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie) before later moving over to the GCPD to work on the medical side of things. She has proven to be valuable to the department, but also a nice ally for Jim and a calming influence on his life. Also, she withstand a pretty insane fight with Barbara Keen during the finale, which may actually be one of Barbara’s best moments of the entire first season.

Baccarin is certainly a person who has the love of many in the genre community. She first became known to many as Inara on “Firefly,” before ultimately having a short stint on ABC’s “V.” She played Jess Brody on a non-genre show in “Homeland,” but now has this role and also one coming up in the “Deadpool” movie starring Ryan Reynolds.

Season 2 of “Gotham” will begin filming this summer, and in addition to more of Dr. Thompkins, be prepared to as see more of Harvey Dent and Jerome, the insane young man who many believe has at least some sort of tie to the Joker. Fox announced today at their upfront that the show will retain its timeslot Mondays at 8:00 p.m. Eastern.
