‘Gotham’ season 2 spoilers: Will Jada Pinkett Smith return?

Gotham -While it may seem completely unlikely at the moment that Jada Pinkett Smith has a future in “Gotham” given what happened to Fish Mooney, at the same time it also seems like it is probably a good idea not to write her off, at least not yet. Given that the Penguin survived and made it back to the city as well, there is no guarantee that Fish is dead just yet.

Speaking about the finale to Entertainment Weekly, Smith confirmed that she will not be back for season 2 … as a series regular. This does not mean that her character is gone, and she is willing to come back. In the end, she never did have any real false pretenses that her character would somehow be an enormous part of the series long-term:

“I signed for a year. I don’t think any of us really thought that Fish would have the life that she’s had or be one of the favorite characters on the show. She was there to service a purpose, as far as helping to tell Penguin’s story. I never knew exactly what it was going to be, but she’s not part of the original mythology. She was created for the television show specifically. I’m a smart girl. I understood I was there to service Penguin.”

While we were not always the biggest fan of Fish during season 1, what we did like about her was the decision in general to present a strong female Big Bad, as opposed to someone who is a bit more stereotypical. She was also a precursor to some of the other colorful villains that will be coming, and that includes seeing more of the Joker in season 2.
