‘Gotham’ season 2 spoilers: Series boss on early Joker questions

Gotham -Tonight, “Gotham” brought the end of its first season, and at the same time the end to a number of its characters. Fish Mooney seemingly fell to her death at the hands of the Penguin, but not before shooting Maroni in the head and doing away for him for good. With Falcone seemingly leaving the city, this means that the man otherwise known as Oswald Cobblepot may actually have a chance to rise to power all his own.

However, does that mean for certain that he is going to be the Big Bad for the second season? Not entirely, since it seems more like the show is diving further into Joker mythology. Speaking per Deadline, executive producer Bruno Heller explains that the goal for their next big villain is to have a villain who wants to “destroy” the city more so than rule it. This, of course brings us to questions of the Joker, and the suspicion that the young man Jerome we already met could become this character:

“We’re going to answer a lot of questions about The Joker that were raised this season … There’s so much revealed in the first three episodes [of the next season]. Jerome contains the DNA of The Joker, but if he isn’t him than how does someone else appear to be the Joker? How does The Joker’s identity transfer into somebody else’s body?”

The idea of Jerome as someone other than the Joker has been our top theory for a while. It seems too easy for him to be Gotham’s most-notorious villain, and this character has always been shrouded in mystery to an extreme level.
