‘Saturday Night Live’ music: Florence + the Machine perform ‘Ship to Wreck,’ ‘What Kind of Man’

SNL -Florence + the Machine are the penultimate musical act on “Saturday Night Live” this season, and we are never going to object to getting a chance to see a good rock band on the show. Their sound is unique including lead singer Florence Welch, and for the most part their performances are almost always high-energy. We will give you some honesty here when we say that we have never heard their song “Ship to Wreck” before, but we liked it! There was a driving beat behind it, stirring lyrical content, and it feels like it could be a hit today.

Obviously, building up hits is one of the reason why many artists go on this show in the first place, and “SNL” has been a great platform for burgeoning bands for some time. Luckily in this case, we are dealing with a group that has already found plenty of success, and this is just a chance to do something more.

As for the second song, the band went out to perform “What Kind of Man,” which is another brand-new song. While there were a whole variety of more-popular songs that the group could have busted out, they chose to go more the promotional route and we really cannot blame them for that. We didn’t enjoy the song as much as the first one, but it does all come down to personal choice in the end here.

Next week, “SNL” will be airing the finale featuring Rihanna, who is someone who knows both how to perform here, and also how to put on the show. Here’s to hoping for a cameo in a sketch.
