‘Once Upon a Time’ season 4, episode 20 preview: Is Regina back to her Evil Queen ways?

Sunday night’s new episode of “Once Upon a Time” is going to be one potentially for the ages. The title of it is “Mother,” and you better be prepared throughout for there to be a variety of different surprises and ties back to that title. When you think about all of the mother / daughter relationships going on right now (Maleficent / Lily, Snow White / Emma), it is far from a shock that this is the direction the producers chose to go in with this installment. The sneak peeks below give you some further sense of that.

1. Regina spends some time with Lily – Or is it really Regina at all? What adds to the mystery of this particular preview is the fact that it is not even remotely clear just who is pulling the strings here. Maybe Lana Parrilla’s character is hoping to use her blood as some sort of ink to rewrite history; or, maybe this is Rumpelstiltskin in surprise. Really, we just don’t want to dive back into the “Regina is turning evil” story that has been regurgitated over the past two years. It makes all of this character development effectively useless.

2. Cora returns – Granted, it’s in a flashback, but we do still this as another reminder of the power that Regina’s mother has over her. Just take a look at her reaction when she appears, following Regina doing a further series of terrible things. This sneak peek is mostly just interesting to watch from the perspective of history, knowing how Cora started out, and how in many ways her own heartache echoes that of her daughter, still clearly mourning the loss of Daniel here.
