‘Once Upon a Time’ season 4 spoilers: Will we be meeting new characters this season?

Once -Is “Once Upon a Time” getting ready to lift the veil on some new faces later this season? In some ways, it has been a tradition  for the show to introduce a new character or a potential setting by the time the current season ends. In season 2, we set the stage for going to Neverland in season 3. Meanwhile, last season ended with the huge Elsa reveal that really rocked the show and its fans. (Is anyone else still surprised that the show has barely even referenced her since she and Anna left?)

As for whether or not you can expect something similar to take place this season, the short answer to that is “don’t count on it.” Instead, it feels most like the series is going to be relying on setting up some development in Storybrooke more so than introducing some new faces. Here is what co-creator Edward Kitsis said on the subject per The Hollywood Reporter:

“We certainly are setting up for what next season would be at the end of the finale this year, but we’re doing it in hopefully a different way than we’ve done before. It’s probably a little more reminiscent in a way to season one, where a condition [was set out] that magic is coming, versus having a new villain of the year or a journey to a different world. It’ll be in a slightly different a way, but hopefully just as earthshaking or changing than we’ve ever done, if not more so.”

Maybe there will be a few changes here and there to the formula for season 5, but we’re glad that they are moving away seemingly from the “throw new characters at the screen idea.” Zelena is the first time in two years that we’ve had someone show up for an arc and actually be relevant once it is over.
