‘The Flash’ episode 21 preview: More of Grodd (what else do you need?)

The FlashAfter watching the extended promo below for next week’s new episode of “The Flash” entitled “Grodd Lives,” it is incredibly hard to criticize the show for taking risks here. This is one of those comic-book characters who is almost impossible to create in live-action. Unless you’ve got a budget of a “Planet of the Apes” movie, how do you create Gorilla City?

Well, the show is taking many liberties from the comic origins of the Grodd character, at least so it seems. What we know is that he seems to be an experimental project of Harrison Wells, and he is being used mostly as a distraction so that the man otherwise known as the Reverse Flash / Eobard Thawne can execute his true plan. What is that? It is still not entirely clear. while many mysteries this season have been resolved in full at this point, one of the larger one remains the origin story for Wells’ hatred of Barry. We know that he needs the speed force, but what else is there?

As excited as we are to see Grodd, let’s hope that this is something similar to Slade Wilson in that we get to know him over the course of the first season, and he comes on and plays a much larger role during the second. There is more to this story, even if it is probably not easy to craft a CGI gorilla and then have casual fans take him seriously. At this point, there are enough hardcore fans waiting to see him to make up for it.

We will have much more in the way of updates before this episode airs, so be on the lookout!
