‘Everybody Loves Raymond’ actor Sawyer Sweeten dead at 19

Raymond -Some truly sad news is coming out late Thursday night, in particular to everyone who watched for many years “Everybody Loves Raymond” on CBS. Sawyer Sweeten, the young actor who played Geoffrey Barone, one of the two sons of Ray Romano’s title character, passed away this morning after committing suicide. He was only 19 years old. His family confirmed the new in a statement per Deadline: “This morning a terrible family tragedy has occurred. We are devastated to report that our beloved brother, son, and friend, Sawyer Sweeten, took his own life. He was weeks away from his 20th birthday.”

Sweeten was a part of the series for almost a decade, starting in 1996 and continuing all the way until 2005. He was only around a year old at the time of the first season. He appeared in more than a hundred episodes, and worked alongside many of his family members. His twin brother Sullivan played Michael Barone on the show whereas older sister Madylin Sweeten was Ally. He is the second cast member from the series to pass away following Peter Boyle, and after the show was completed he went on to have a relatively quiet life away from the camera (though he had appeared at the TV Land Awards).

Obviously, this is an incredibly sad situation to lose anyone in such a way, especially someone so young and through a means such as suicide. Hopefully the rest of his friends and family are going to have the support they need after they go through an immeasurably difficult time.

Most of the former cast of the CBS show has not commented on the passing yet, but they may also be just heart the sad news.

For now, we will just close by saying that our thoughts and condolences are with all of Sweeten’s family. (Photo: CBS.)
