‘American Idol XIV’ review: Clark Beckham, Jax, Tyanna Jones perform arena songs
Arena music is the name of the game tonight, and everyone got a chance to perform a pair of different songs. Some were very good, but quite a few were also very generic.
Nick Fradiani – Consistency is really the man’s strength. He performed both Maroon 5 and Rod Stewart, and they were both very serviceable. They just weren’t yet again the sort of performance we would hope to see from an eventual winner that pushes the envelope at this point int he competition.
Tyanna Jones – In between “Party in the USA” and also “Heaven,” Tyanna had a nice night. We do wish that she had done a little more with the latter, but she also doesn’t have too much to be ashamed about right now.
Clark Beckham – We were a little surprised that his cover was “Yesterday” was as shaky as it was. However, at the same time we were incredibly surprised that his take on “Boyfriend” was anywhere near as cool as it was. He breathed new life into the track!
Quentin Alexander – The very first performance was pretty great; however, at the same time the second performance was all sorts of amazing and worth even a tear or two. One of the finest performances from Quentin of the entire season, and a great comeback for him after the controversy last week.
Jax – Really dug both of Jax’s performances tonight, as well! We feel like she is really hitting her stride at the right time, and is probably at the moment the only real threat to actually defeat Clark in a final-two situation.
Rayvon Owen – We’ll give at least some credit to Rayvon, who had a pretty good night. As you’ll see in the results link below, we have some bones to pick with the way the elimination was presented. However, he is a very good singer who has earned his place to make it to this point.
