Is ‘Twin Peaks’ dead at Showtime before revival even began?

Showtime -The story of “Twin Peaks” and its attempt at a revival has been one long simmering, especially with the rumors long-standing that the show may not be moving forward despite there being a tremendous amount of demand to see it happen.

Today, the word broke that Showtime had officially canceled the show, and that director / writer David Lynch was calling around to various cast members to inform them of the news. However, that is not entirely accurate. According to the Twin Peaks Festival on Facebook, it was actually Lynch himself that decided to walk away from the series after prolonged negotiations with him did not go the way that it wanted. It is rather strange that after such a long wait, the show is ending for financial reasons more so than anything else. Take a look at the reported statement:

“Showtime did not pull the plug on Twin Peaks. After one year and four months of negotiations, I left because not enough money was offered to do the script the way I felt it needed to be done. This weekend I started to call actors to let them know I would not be directing. Twin Peaks may still be very much alive at Showtime. I love the world of Twin Peaks and wish things could have worked out differently.”

We don’t necessarily think that this was Lynch asking for more money for himself; instead, it feels more like the series was not getting a large enough budget to be able to deliver the quality that he wanted. Either way, this is somewhat surprising that a deal couldn’t get done for both parties. This had the makings of a huge hit for Showtime, given how many fans still love the original.
