‘The Blacklist’ season 3: Hisham Tawfiq (Dembe) promoted to series regular

The Blacklist logo any seasonGiven how much you have seen Dembe on “The Blacklist” since the beginning of the series, we are admittedly surprised that this news has not come out sooner. Hisham Tawfiq, who plays the mysterious assistant / bodyguard to Raymond Reddington (James Spader), has been promoted to regular for the upcoming third season of the show. This news was first reported by Deadline.

We love this news, mostly because Dembe is the sort of fan-favorite character we’d love to learn more about. He is mostly the strong, silent type, but we know that he has a deep connection to Red that stems from a lengthy history and loyalty to him. He’s the sort of man who has an ambiguous sense of morality, that you cannot quite pin down. With that said, we do love the chemistry that Tawfiq and Spader share onscreen.

“The Blacklist” was renewed for a third season earlier this year, though there was no real doubt that it would be. While the show has suffered at times from lower ratings and a sophomore slump, it remains a valuable part of the NBC schedule. With a third season coming and 88 episodes needed for syndication, it feels almost assured that a season 4 will be coming to go along with this. That means more chances to figure out what Reddington’s endgame really is, and to see if there is a connection between him and Liz Keen (Megan Boone) that we do not see coming…. and Reddington being Liz’s father does not count as something we don’t see coming.

For the time being, we should just focus on the current season given that there is a whole lot going on. Tom Keen is back in the picture, and his relationship with Liz is going to take some surprising terms. In the end, Liz may be forced to choose between Red or Tom when it comes to where her allegiance lies and with Tom coming to her rescue and now him being in her house looking for her support, the bond between them could grow even stronger.
