‘Empire’ finale: Now scoring big in the soundtrack department

Who knew that “Empire” on Fox was going to be so much more than just a fantastic TV show? It has managed to just do something that a broadcast series has not done in decades. Get a #1 spot on the Billboard 200 for a disc filled mostly with original music.

Per Deadline, the show’s soundtrack is set to top Madonna’s latest album and sit pretty at the top of the chart. The last time this happened was with a “Miami Vice” album back when that show was in its heyday. While “Glee” had the top spot on a few occasions years back, the majority of its tracks were covers of other hits re-done for the show. Timbaland helped to create the sound of this particular series on Fox, and the music sounds pretty authentic because of it.

The great news for “Empire” here is that we really do not get any indication that this is going to change in the near future. This series happens to beloved among many who enjoy the show, and even with it off the air, many will be thinking about the music for a little while.

“Empire” will air its two-hour finale on Fox Wednesday night. Meanwhile, the show has a second season already ordered! The only question there is whether or not it will be debuting in the fall, or in the spring. Given its ratings, Fox will most-likely try to get it back on sooner rather than later.
