We have been hoping for some time to get something official in regards to Lily James and her future status on “Downton Abbey.” Now, we feel like we have it. She has been on a whirlwind promotional tour over the past few weeks for the upcoming movie “Cinderella,” which in turn basically renders it impossible for her to appear in at least the first part of the season.
Now, we know for sure that James does want to be back at some point, even though her characters seems to have left for America with her new husband. Speaking in a new interview with Zap2It, she made her intentions very clear in regards to whether or not she was going to be gone from the series forever: “I’m really hoping to come back. I feel like it’s definitely going to happen.”
In addition to this, James also speculated as to what could happen to her character. There’s obviously the pull that comes from the actor wanting the best material here, but there’s also the desire for the character to have the best overall story. We imagine that both are weighing on her at the same time:
“Part of me wants her to like lose her sh– and come back completely wrecked and a ruined woman, and part of me wants her to keep her happily ever after.”
Personally, we envision a Rose return being something that is perfect for a Christmas Special, especially in the event that we are getting the near the end of the road for the show as a whole. The best move here would then be to bring back many familiar faces, and give you almost a sweeping updates on what has transpired for many of them since we last saw them surface on the show.
