Ratings: ‘The Following’ season 3 clobbered without ‘Gotham’; ‘Bachelor’ finale solid, ‘The Voice’ wins
As you probably expected, “The Following” without a lead-in is really not a show with that large of a following anymore.
For its second episode of season 3 last night, the Kevin Bacon drama mustered just a series-low 1.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic. This is a show that, while it has potential for greatness, really was a surprise renewal in our eyes for this season. Season 2 just failed to meet that potential so much, and Fox at the time had some other stronger hits. (Of course, since then some of those hits like “Sleepy Hollow” have sunk to the ground to a certain extent.) With this trajectory, we imagine that the show’s chances of coming back for another season are virtually slim to none.
Elsewhere on the major networks, there weren’t all that many winners. While the finale for “The Bachelor” fared solidly, it drawing a 2.7 rating is down pretty sharply from last year’s controversial end. Let it therefore be known that if you have a really dramatic male lead that is not always loved by everyone, then there’s a pretty good chance people will want to watch in the end.
The biggest winner of the night was “The Voice,” which posted a pretty solid 3.6 rating. One of the reasons why many of the numbers were down across the board this week is simply because of Daylight Savings Time. This happens almost every year, so there is really no expectation that the rest of the week will be any different.
