‘Shameless’ season 5, episode 9 preview: Ian’s revelation; Fiona prepares Carl for sentencing

We are now entering what we like to think of as the home stretch of “Shameless.” There are only four installments left, and the challenge here is to establish some sort of temporary endgame for the likes of Frank, Fiona, and the rest of the Gallagher clan. This episode is going to be a livelier one, given that Frank gets to take someone on a tour, Fiona helps Carl prepare for something terrible, and much more will be crammed within the show’s hour-long runtime. The synopsis below makes much of that clear:

“Frank plays tour guide to the seedier side of life for his doctor after she is diagnosed with terminal cancer; Fiona prepares Carl for his sentencing hearing; Lip sleeps with a professor; Ian realizes he needs to get back on his meds.”

To us, the highlight of the promo below happens within the span of a few seconds, mostly because we get an opportunity to talk about Frank being read his last rites more times than he can count. He basically is the poster child for living like you’re never going to live again. Carl has a reason to be a little more afraid.

Also, be prepare to see Frisky Professor live up to our just-created nickname with Lip, and she does it right after she claims to have no interest in sleeping with students. This should be a fun episode! Hopefully, it will do a great job setting up the endgame for the rest of this season. We’ll just have to see what happens following this in the weeks ahead. There’s only so much more to go!
