NBC’s ‘The Voice’ spoilers: Watch Brian Johnson, Joshua Davis battle on Team Blake!

The Voice -

For all Battle Round enthusiasts, they will begin on Monday night’s edition of “The Voice.” There will be some easy decisions made, but the one between Brian Johns and Joshua Davis on Team Blake Shelton will probably not be one of them.

The thing that we’ll give these two above all else credit for is subtlety. It would have been easy for them to go off with riffs and big notes on “Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door,” but they were reigned in to keep it simple, and focus on some harmonies and a few little moments here and there. There may be some in the “I want big notes all the time!” world who find this a little sleepier, but we appreciated the soft, quiet nature of it. This was two guys singing a lovely song more than two people really engaging in vocal fusticuffs. That’s great for some battles, but it has to be the right song.

If we were to pick our favorite, we’d side right now with Brian just because we feel like we understand him more as a contestant, and we feel where he’s coming from when he sings. In terms of pure vocal ability, these two are really close. Sometimes, you have to think as a coach of who you connect with the most and would want to work with. That’s what makes this potential choice a little bit harder for Blake. It’s not like he can dismiss one of them for completely blowing it.

One thing we wish the show would do for these rounds is cut out the other coach feedback. We cannot remember a single thing said by another coach before a steal that was valuable.
