‘Arrow’ / ‘The Flash’ spin-off debate: Should Caity Lotz play Sara Lance, or whole new character?
It has been over a week now since it was first reported that a new spin-off is coming for “Arrow” and “The Flash,” and even still, we are no closer to really understanding it now than we were then. How in the world do Captain Cold (Wentworth Miller), The Atom (Brandon Routh), Martin Stein (Victor Garber), and whoever Caity Lotz is playing work as an ensemble? Are they all heroes? Is Captain Cold the head of a mythical league of villains?
Given that the two current shows will be at PaleyFest soon, we imagine that answers are coming … but we are also impatient. Therefore, we wanted to spend this article posing a question that has haunted us since the idea was announced: How is Caity involved here? It’s easy to bring the other characters over, mostly because they are all alive. Sara Lance has been dead since the second episode of “Arrow” season 3. Do you throw her body in the Lazarus Pit, or give her a completely different character to play?
The case for more Sara – Many fans already love her, and feel like she is the Canary they first rooted for on the show. Also, awesome fight choreography. Given how many other times The CW has stretched reality on some of their other shows, it wouldn’t be that insane to learn that someone dug her up and brought her back to life in Frankenstein fashion. Heck, zombie Sara Lance could probably even have an “iZombie” crossover with Rose McIver. (Okay, probably kidding on that last bit.)
The case for someone new – Right now, our preference is that you cast Lotz as another female hero from the DC universe, mostly because there are so many out there. What about Stargirl, Power Girl, or Zatanna? Give her a character where she can have a different backstory, and change up her look a little bit so it’s not that obvious it is the same actress in the part. You also want people to cheer on Laurel as Black Canary, and if you just have Sara as the original Canary again, you are almost asking for them to be continuously compared again.

Many voted that they want sara back… YOu know, as for the culture of sci-fi…wierd things really happen even if the unimaginable thing that was impossible to happen in the real world so I’m ok with sara lance coming back from the dead…hahahaha! you cannot blame the mind of the writers to screw up on every reality in life because it is not reality! just their mind working on an impossible plot! and hey, it’s a superhero comic themed show so every thing will be possible even on the weirdest plot that everyone couldn’t imagine…hahaha…I understand them…

As much as I love Sara, I don’t know how they bring that character back without screwing up logistics on Arrow. If they can suddenly give the Lazarus Pit treatment to everyone who died, why not bring back Tommy? Or Moira? Death has to mean something for the show to have impact.

Sara’s important to different people than Tommy and Moira were/is important for different reasons. Nyssa could put her in a Lazarus Pit. She’s not going to do that for Tommy or Moira. Ra’s or Malcolm could do it for some nefarious purpose (Malcolm thought Tommy was weak and unworthy of being his heir, I could buy him not resurrecting Tommy but resurrecting Sara to use her as a weapon, more easily than I can buy this “but Malcolm’s just misunderstood” crap they’re trying to sell now). The people that would want to use the Lazarus Pit on other characters might not have access or might not like the idea of bringing someone back from the dead, potentially crazy.
Death already doesn’t mean anything on this show, because the men who aren’t Tommy can constantly survive what should absolutely be mortal wounds with no explanation at all.

Good point about everyone inexplicably surviving mortal wounds. I’m still holding out hope that we’ll get an actual explanation of how Oliver survived the fall, but that’s starting to look like a long shot.

Arrow logistics are already messed up

I want her as a new hero. I’ve got limited comic knowledge but from some brief reading Power Girl seems like a nice fit. Whatever they could do to bring Sara back to life would be too damn awkard, and using her in flashbacks only would make even less sense.

Well, I think maybe she could come back as a female version of deadman or came back through lazarus pit but seem like she a real different person that instead of sara being the soul then, other soul possess her body that makes her a real different persona and the viewers would actually be surprised that she is actually Sara through flashback of that particular character…

They could move her into becoming a different superhero, or even come back as a villain crazed from the Lazarus Pit. But I think it would be too weird to have Caity Lotz back and not play Sara.
