‘The Flash’ spoilers: Robbie Amell on Firestorm spin-off possibilities
“The Flash” has done a pretty great job establishing the Firestorm mythology on the show; in all honesty, they’ve done a better job than we even imagined that they could. This is not an easy character to adapt, since you have two separate people to think about.
Given how popular Firestorm is to diehard DC Comics fans, it is not that far out of the realm of possibility to think that a spin-off would be possible … but it doesn’t seem to be happening anytime soon. Speaking to MTV in the video below while promoting his new movie “The DUFF,” Robbie Amell makes it clear that he has not really heard anything about the idea that fans of the show are unaware of, and most of the chatter he’s heard as been about Brandon Routh and The Atom. He also joked that there is way too much fire for the show to really work as a webseries (no way that works in the budget). Ultimately, he just says that the CW already has a whole lot of shows, and when you through “Supergirl” in there, who may or may not be in the same universe, that is a whole lot of programming.
We still feel like “Firestorm” could work as an independent series … just not in the fall or the spring. Our dream scenario here is that you have two summer shows in “Firestorm” and “The Atom,” and they run for thirteen episodes each in the Tuesday / Wednesday timeslots. You run them alongside repeats of the flagship shows, and it expands the universe to yet another level.
Regardless of what The CW chooses to do, we get the sense that it will probably not happen this fall unless there is some shock reveal soon.
