Fox may create TV version of ‘X-Men,’ per reports
Well, this could either be very interesting or a pretty catastrophic flop.
According to multiple sources including Entertainment Weekly, Fox is progressing on their plans to make a live-action TV show based off of the “X-Men” franchise, which they still have the rights to rather than Marvel. This would most likely involve some of the smaller characters in the franchise; given that they already have Wolverine and Storm for the feature films, they would probably not shift over and use them here, as well. There are still many components of this that would need to be worked out, but right now, it does seem very much like the network is intrigued with the idea and would like to see it happen.
We’re not entirely sure if this is a good idea or not. Fox already has “Gotham” for one, and it would be all sorts of strange to have a Marvel and a DC series airing on the same network. Also, we are starting to feel like superhero shows are oversaturating the TV market. “Arrow” was the first of this new generation, but since that point we’ve seen such others as “Gotham,” “Agents of SHIELD,” “The Flash,” “Agent Carter,” Daredevil,” “Supergirl,” “Heroes: Reborn,” and “AKA Jessica Jones” all get a green light. This is a lot of television for just one genre, and there is only so much that a comic fan could watch.
Ultimately, this would depend mostly on the writers, the cast, and the characters. For now, we’re just going to wait and see. It’s very well possible that this show never happens.
