‘Galavant’ season 2: On renewal odds, what we’d like to see
Tonight, ABC is closing the door on a series that we have much enjoyed in “Galavant,” and the thought of this does ultimately make us sad. We’ve adored the music, the performances, the setting, and of course the laughs. This has to be our favorite comedy of the 2014-15 season, even if there have been others with flashes of brilliance here and there.
Now, we have to wonder this: Where could the series go if there was another season? While we feel like we’ll get some sort of temporary closure tonight, the thirst is going to be there for more! This will be especially true when people start to discover this series a little bit after the fact. Given all of the competition it has been against (the AFC Championship Game, the Golden Globes), quite a few out there may have not given the series much of a chance.
Unfortunately, ABC cannot account for viewers that are not currently there. Unless the ratings spike tonight, we feel like the odds of a renewal are not particular great. We would be fine if it aired at the same time next year, and that may be the one real hope that it has at coming back; it is something that the network can plug in during January, when there is not much else to put on the air without throwing it to the metaphorical wolves.
But what about elsewhere? If ABC does cancel it, we could see the show being a potential winner somewhere like Netflix or Hulu, where you could just blitz through the entire season. This is a show that really works well upon binge-watching, since one episode carries directly into the next.
One thing that is worth considering here is the episode order. While having only four hours worth of content is a bummer, we don’t really think that this show would work with anything more than, say, a ten-episode order. Otherwise, you run the risk of having so many musical numbers that they start to dilute the others, and it becomes much harder to tell a serialized story the longer you go into a season.
Ultimately, we just want there to be more of the show. We don’t quite care where it airs, just so long as it does. Update: Clearly, the writers went in a bold direction with the finale, making it almost a challenge for ABC to renew the show. We did not anticipate that.

I loved this series. Such a delightful change from the stupid reality shows and the fairy tale dramas. This show knows what its for and does it very well. I really hope it gets renewed. God knows we need something to look forward to.

This is how American TV is different from British TV. British TV usually know where to stop and when to tie things up. It’s almost always a neat package with each season. I agree with someone somewhere, that ABC should have concluded with one story line and move on to the next. It is a rather big disappointment and anti climax when all you get is a cliff hanger. Sure a cliff hanger is effective to make people wanting for more, but it is only effective if there’s a season 2. Otherwise a nice show would ultimately become a let down. I hope there’s a season 2, there should be plenty of stories to tell about Galavant, the pirates, the King, the chef and what will happen to the evil queen at the end. A few words of caution, do not give the show special treatments, eg. do not make the show excessively long, and please end the show when there’s nothing more to tell. In a nutshell, don’t make 20 seasons of it. Not even 7, not even 5. Maybe at most 3 seasons to make it nice and sweet.

Ok but have you /seen/ BBC Sherlock? Mini series ending in a cliffhanger literally every season. SO you can’t just call this a British vs US tv difference.
I totally agree that they need to keep the season count low, but I SO want more.
I understand that for a musical format like this, they have to do a half season (barely) so it doesnt get tired, but a half season isn’t enough room for a show like this to really hit its stride. adding at least one more season with a few of the complications thrown in at the s1 finale to keep it going without getting boring or repetitive would be the best.

i don’t think they expect or even want a season 2. There was never a chance or desire to get renewed and they figured the shock factor of resolving nothing would be a good joke

I agree with Trish & Annie & Ash – such a fun show & one I can watch with my family, without having to get cable or special channels or using computers! Who can we write to to keep this show on? Or doesn’t that work anymore? Really, how can the networks even tell who is or isn’t watching with all the DVRs, TIVOs & On Demand channels? Sorry, didn’t mean to rant! It’s just frustrating that they take off the shows that are good family entertainment and leave all the silly supposedly reality shows.

The show fits well amongst ABCs broken schedule they’d be foolish to dump it. It’s like a teaser show fitting in between it’s regulars.

Great family show, so wholesome, fresh, and charming. Renew, it should extend to 8-10 episodes at least for each season, it wanted more. Always pilots are a bit slow until we understand the characters and story, and prefer to Dvr or watch online so it seems ratings are low, but just like breaking bad it will build an audience.

I was perfectly content with just a miniseries, but after it ended LIKE THAT, there HAS to be a season 2!!! I will die if this show gets cancelled on such a cliffhanger.

I agree with Trish. My whole family has anxiously waited all week to see each new episode of Galavant. This mini-series was much loved by the children and adults in our household alike. The writing was witty, the characters likable, and the songs catchy. My children cannot say the name Galavant without singing it! Even if it only returns once a year as hiatus filler, we hope it does return in some form or fashion.

I certainly hope they renew this! My whole family looked forward to it all week and can’t stand the cliffhanger they left us on! It is honestly the only musical my husband will watch and enjoy. The comedy is great and I don’t have to worry about my kids watching it. It’s absolutely fantastic!
