‘Elementary’ season 3, episode 10 review: Joan’s new job; a Kitty Winter cliffhanger

ElementaryAt this point on “Elementary” season 3, you probably assumed that we were going to be at a place where we started to see Sherlock Holmes and Joan Watson team up once again, only this time in a little bit more of a permanent capacity.

Clearly, this is a show that really does not like assumptions, since it decided to go down a very different (but luckily still interesting) road. Sherlock seemed to be prepared and ready to give Kitty the “partner” promotion that he’d been holding back, when suddenly a big reveal at the end of the episode may change everything: The man who seemingly hurt her is now in New York, and this poses great danger to her. Obviously, for the Kitty character (who is started to grow on us) this is tremendously bad news that changes quite a bit moving forward. She was starting to heal, and this could throw her right back into the fire.

While all of this was going on, Joan Watson was making some of her own life-altering decisions, and one of them included taking a job with an insurance company that still had a bit of investigation in the job description. Sound like fun to you? Well, it at least combines some of her interests, and will not impede completely on her ability to work with Sherlock.

With that being said, it is fair to wonder whether or not this new challenge for Holmes and Kitty may cause a change in their dynamic, as this could set her back on her own personal recovery.

While the case itself tonight was not particularly exciting, we like to think the rest of the story made up for it. We’re at least intrigued more than we have been for an episode in some time. Grade: B.
