‘The Fall’ season 3 debate: Should Jamie Dornan return?

The FallLast week, we saw the official end of “The Fall” season 2, and in the midst of that, we saw a rather shocking ending: Paul Spector was shot!

With that being said, is it really the end of Jamie Dornan on the show? The brilliant thing about this ending is that it does paint a very ambiguous picture for the future of the show. Maybe Spector survives, or maybe the show moves on with another person for Gibson to focus her energy on. (We should note here that there is not even any confirmation right now that the show is even returning to BBC Two, even with pretty good ratings.)

We figure that the reason for the ambiguous ending for Spector may be tied to Dornan’s status as an up-and-coming movie star. The upcoming “Fifty Shades of Grey” movie could be a turning point in his career, and it is not entirely clear as of yet what sort of roles he is going to be offered after it debuts. If it ends up becoming a big hit, it may be hard for him to continue to commit time to a British television show.

However, at the same time, we still argue that it would be smart for Dornan to keep this going, much in the way that Benedict Cumberbatch continues to go back to “Sherlock.” This is a role that anchors him, appeals him to fans, and also does not take up a whole lot of time in his schedule since it is not necessarily an annual thing. This could be an anchor for Dornan, just in case movies do not pan out well for him, or if he wants to keep these fans on his side.
