‘The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson’ welcomes James Corden; plus, we reflect

Craig Ferguson -Come March, CBS is going to be launching a brand-new version of their latest of the late-night franchises in “The Late Late Show.” Before that, though, Craig Ferguson will be saying goodbye to the program tomorrow with a spectacular offering that we’ll have further coverage of very soon.

Before we come to that, though, why not spend a few moments here discussing what we saw from Ferguson’s recent introduction to James Corden? The performer, known for a variety of different things including the upcoming “Into the Woods,” made an appearance last night, and Craig, being ever the classy man that he is, greeted him with open arms.

In a way, there was no reason for Craig not to. He and CBS decided on his exit long ago, and he seems ready to try some different things in life. No doubt, those who love him will find plenty of other ways to see him.

With that being said, we wanted to share quickly why we loved Craig so much as a host, and it goes beyond his robot skeletons, his love for “Doctor Who,” or his candid and unplanned interviews. It starts with his ability to be truly personal, and sometimes unafraid to step away from comedy. His 2007 monologue about his struggles with alcoholism may be one of the most heartfelt and powerful things that you watch. The last time we probably got this emotional watching late-night was for Jon Stewart’s first show after September 11.

As for Corden, he comes across right now as a little nervous, but there is a part of that in his comic character. We know that he has the skills to be very great at this, and be a nice counterpoint to Seth Meyers on NBC. We’re going to give him a shot.
