‘Homeland’ season 4, episode 11: Betrayal shocker, more brings ratings high
Season 4 has been a creative revival for “Homeland,” and while it may have taken a little bit of time, it is clear that this is finally starting to pay some very big dividends for the network.
Overall, the latest episode airing on Sunday night, which featured the shocking reveal of Dar Adal as the traitor at the center of the story, ended up drawing 2.1 million viewers. This is the top-rated episode of the season so far, even if it is not a series high.
What we are seeing from this season, though, is that if you really commit yourself, a series really can go home again and prove itself to be worth your time. Admittedly, there are still some bumps in the road when it comes to this season, with one of the biggest ones being that story with Aayan and the decision to even bring Damian Lewis back at all. Some things really are better off being buried.
For the most part, though, “Homeland” has succeeded by, ironically, being a little more like “24.” It is not going completely over-the-top and ridiculous, but it has combined its intelligent writing with a greater sense of action and urgency, and raised the stakes at times to life-or-death levels.
The season 4 finale is going to air on Showtime Sunday night, and there is no reason to worry about the show now, regardless of what the ratings are. After all, the series has already been officially renewed for a fifth season.
