‘The Following’ season 3 spoilers: Addressing that Mark cliffhanger
The second season of “The Following” was certainly inconsistent. It bounced between various stories, presented a number of different mysteries, and did not always do a whole lot to answer any of them.
However, the final few episodes of the season did focus down the story somewhat, and it presented us with a pretty interesting mystery in the closing minutes: Who was picking up Mark in that truck? He managed to escape, and that cannot be a good thing for Ryan Hardy and company.
Ultimately, though, the reason behind Mark being picked up may be more important than who is actually picking him up. As executive producer Alexi Hawley tells TV Guide, this is all a part of something large that will make itself clear over the course of the season:
“There’s a deeper mystery to unravel during the first five episodes … There’s what’s going on in front of you, and there’s also hints that there are some deeper conspiracies.”
Let’s just hope that most of this makes a little bit of sense. This is a show in season 1 that had some pretty poignant moments, and it made us care about some of these characters. It feels like a smart decision to try to shelve the Joe Carroll character for a while, focus on Ryan Hardy, and let the story develop a little bit over time.
Of course, we are going to have many more stories when it comes to “The Following” moving forward, so be sure to keep checking back for some of that.
