‘Arrow’ season 3 spoilers: Will Dinah Lance return force Laurel to tell the truth?
So far on “Arrow” season 3, there has been one reason primarily why Laurel Lance has not told her father the truth about Sara’s death: His heart problem. She figures that it is just as easy to act like she is gone again that she won’t have to utter those words.
We understand emotionally the motive behind her act here, but there is also a huge problem that she is also not addressing: How long can she really keep this a secret for? He is going to find out eventually, and when he does, it will create even more problems than it would have otherwise.
If you are looking for a specific date when the truth here could come out, the winter finale “The Climb” may be is. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, showrunner Marc Guggenheim explained that the return of Dinah Lance to the fold may cause Laurel to be in a situation where she has no other choice:
“Holidays are a good time to reunite family members … Obviously the Lance family has a lot of issues going on within it that only Laurel knows about. The advantage of bringing Alex Kingston (who plays Dinah) back in this moment in time is to quite frankly turn the knife in Laurel’s gut. We’ve been torturing her with the burdens of keeping this secret and that’s going to get harder with Alex Kingston’s arrival.”
It is still to be seen what the ultimate consequence of keeping this secret is, but we can imagine Quentin Lance being very angry and upset over it. This is something that Laurel will have to contend with, and who knows? Maybe this is yet another driving force behind her transformation into Black Canary, which is going to be a big part of early next year.
