‘Dancing with the Stars’19 finale: Derek Hough teases Bethany Mota freestyle

Monday night’s “Dancing with the Stars” finale is not far away now, and there is one part of this competition that we are really looking forward to, it is the freestyle. This is the chance to see the creativity for not only the pros, but also their partners. They get to tell a story all about their lives, their progress on the show, or just something fun with a silly theme behind it.

For us, all we really want to see from a dance is something that we haven’t seen before. That’s easier said than done 19 seasons in, but isn’t this what the pros are paid for?

Derek Hough at least seems to think so, and he puts a good bit of responsibility into finding a way to tell a great story here. Writing in his new TV Guide blog, he shared the following:

“With the freestyle, I feel like I’ve covered a lot of bases before and it’s like what’s next? It’s a sense of trying not to do something over and over again. I did the stripped-down contemporary with Kellie already. I’ve done the upbeat stuff. You can go with heart or a fun, lighthearted dance or something completely serious. With Bethany, I’m trying to figure out what the right thing for her is. What are her strengths and what’s going to make her shine? So I’ve settled on telling her story. It starts off slowly and lyrically with beautiful shapes and beautiful lines. There will be other dancers as the dance builds to show her Motavators behind her. It signifies her life and strength. She’s created her own brand and her own career — her own everything, really.”

We are not ones to use hyperbole typically, and we legitimately think that this may be the most competitive finale that we’ve ever seen. Anyone remaining could win, and we feel like the judges will probably hand out similar scores, and then let the public sort this one out.
