‘Luther’ season 4 official; BBC One two air two-part special for Idris Elba in 2015

BBC One -While Idris Elba may be a very busy man, there is no longer a reason for fans of “Luther” to feel even remotely left out in the cold: The show is going to return with a two-part special event, which is going to air at some point next year. It’s a little shorter than the standard order, but a little “Luther” is definitely better than nothing.

In a statement confirming this news today, show creator Neil Cross said the following about making this happen, and the new season (which will start filming in March):

“Ever since we said goodbye to John Luther on Southwark Bridge, there’s hardly been a minute when I didn’t wonder what happened next … So I decided to find out. We’re putting the band back together; Luther is coming back where he belongs. Back to the BBC. Back to London. And back to work.”

There’s no need to dispute this one in any way at all; this is tremendous news, and something that is definitely worth celebrating. In terms of irony, this news does come a day following the reveal that Fox is looking to adapt the series for American television. While Elba will be on board there alongside Cross as an executive producer, he is not being tapped at the moment to appear.

Personally, we’d be okay if there is no “Luther” in America, but only because the original is so good, and almost every other actor in the known universe is going to pale in comparison to the awesomeness that is Idris in this part.

For now, let’s just pose the question as this: How excited are you to see this, and do you think that this is the end of the road for “Luther”?
