‘Hell on Wheels’ season 4, episode 12 preview: Is Ruth set to die?
During last weekend’s episode of “Hell on Wheels,” we saw the end of Sydney Snow’s life, and with that, the end of an opportunity for Ruth to potentially avoid some serious punishment for the crime that she committed.
Moving into Saturday night’s “Thirteen Steps,” her future appears to be far rockier. In the sneak peek below, she admits that she is guilty, takes responsibility for her actions, and then receives the sentence: Death by a noose.
We do not feel like AMC put this sneak-peek video below out there to spoil the story, but to obviously show us the jumping off point to the rest of the episode. The title may be a reference to the number of steps taken up to the noose, and for Cullen Bohannon, his job is simply to figure out if there is a way to keep this tragedy from taking place. We imagine him utilizing almost every resource at his disposal, but it still may not be enough to stop the inevitable.
If Ruth does die, do we blame Cullen? Hardly. Regardless of whether or not you feel her actions were justified, she was the one to pull the trigger, especially since Syd was probably going to be hanged regardless of what she did there. Her actions came merely out of her own desire to take his life. The only other person you could even consider blaming here is John Campbell, mostly for his hard-line stance on all crimes taking place within the town of Cheyenne. This is what is keeping Ruth from receiving any mercy at all.

The previews show Mickey standing up to Campbell, telling him to dig two graves: one for Ruth and one for himself, Campbell. Interesting?
