‘The Blacklist’ season 2, episode 9 spoilers: First intel for Super Bowl episode

The Blacklist logo any seasonNBC’s “The Blacklist” is going to be going big for its upcoming Super Bowl episode, and we now have some of the first information on just what you can expect.

According to a new report coming in now from TVLine, the series is in the process of casing a character of Jasper. He is in his fifties, and described as the Director of the National Clandestine Services. This is a very powerful organization, and we can imagine that he will clash early and often with Reddington (James Spader) and Liz Keen (Megan Boone), and the role will be recurring.

Oh, and one other thing that you should look forward to: Producers are specifically looking to book a reasonably big name for the part. It is going to be a recurring role, and it begins with the Super Bowl episode. Given the caliber of guest stars that the series has managed to secure so far, we have a hard time really imagining that they will face any resistance trying to get someone substantial for this part, as well.

The only thing that we would exercise caution on is making sure that you are casting a star just because they are a star. We are pretty confident that many viewers were unfamiliar with Peter Stormare before we saw him for the first time as Berlin, and he was extremely compelling in the part. We often prefer these talented character actors to big names, who we often have a hard time seeing blend into the cast.

Then again, it’s a catch-22, given that bigger names often bring their own fans / viewers to the shows they visit.
