‘Sons of Anarchy’ season 7, episode 11 preview: Charlie Hunnam, Katey Sagal find pain in ‘Suits of Woe’
“Sons of Anarchy” fans, there is no longer a reason to wait for the inevitable. Tonight, that inevitably finally came to pass.
During the pretty impeccable ending to “Faith and Despondency” on FX Tuesday night, the truth came out that Gemma was the murderer of Tara, and it came from a surprising source straight to Jax Teller: Abel. The young child made the surprising reveal, which is something that he is going to have to digest, try and process, and then figure out if he can really move forward from at all. Will he believe the child? We have to think so, since there is no real reason for Abel to lie.
We like to do a little bit of an episode-title study in these particular episode previews, and for the second time in three weeks (7×09 was “What a Piece of Work Is Man”), Kurt Sutter has decided on an allusion to Hamlet. This one comes via a discussion about death and moving forward in Act I, Scene II between Hamlet and his mother. there is so much more in the source material to read, but we thought we’d at least enclose a little part of it here:
“Seems,” madam? Nay, it is. I know not “seems.”
‘Tis not alone my inky cloak, good mother,
Nor customary suits of solemn black,
Nor windy suspiration of forced breath,
No, nor the fruitful river in the eye,
Nor the dejected ‘havior of the visage,
Together with all forms, moods, shapes of grief,
That can denote me truly. These indeed “seem,”
For they are actions that a man might play.
But I have that within which passeth show,
These but the trappings and the suits of woe.”
There is obviously a tiny bit of irony in Sutter presenting us with a title for a show clearly in Act V that comes from so early in the play, but the emotional fervor of it is still noted.
We’re going to have more on this episode in the coming days, as we try to figure out more and more how this final ride is going to come to a close. Charlie Hunnam and Katey Sagal in particular have quite a bit to look forward to, material-wise.
