‘Chicago Fire’ season 3 spoilers: Boss on relationship woes for Taylor Kinney’s Severide
You better get ready for some drama, and plenty of it, on Tuesday night’s “Chicago Fire” episode. After all, Severide is going to continue to explore what could be an interesting new part of his romantic life … but it also happens to be something that could be incredibly dangerous for him.
We’re talking about Brittany (Serinda Swan), who Severide (Taylor Kinney) met in Vegas on a trip that seemed to be all about distracting him from Leslie Shay’s death. Clearly, this is something that is not ending anytime soon, and on Tuesday night’s new episode, you will find out that she is now in the Windy City with him. However, it’s possible that she, like him, may be dealing with some problems of her own that she is in the process right now of trying to escape from.
Speaking to TV Guide, executive producer Matt Olmstead does a great job of at least laying out what the emotional process for Severide probably is at the moment, and how this reinforces many of the decisions that he is making:
“It’s all, ‘Let’s just keep the party going, and keep the action going. I’m dancing as fast as I can so I don’t have to deal with this grief.’ That sends him to Vegas and they make an impetuous choice for her to come back and she does come back with him to Chicago. Is all this a manifestation of his reluctance to deal with this kind of floating grief from the loss of Shay? Is he making these choices because he just doesn’t want to deal with it? Absolutely.”
In the end, we are hopeful that Severide’s problems with eventually become muted as he starts to really understand what it means to cope, but before that happens, things are probably going to get worse for him. We’re not trying to be the bearer of bad news here; instead, we’re just hoping to preparing ourselves for what is a pretty harsh and likely reality for this character.
This episode is just one part in a larger crossover event that is coming up with “Law & Order: SVU” and “Chicago PD.” You can read more about that story at the link here; also, sign up today if you are curious in some further scoop on everything we cover right away via our official CarterMatt Newsletter.
