‘The Walking Dead’ season 5, episode 5 reaction: Michael Cudlitz on Abraham’s mental state

Walking Dead -Now is not a good time to be Abraham on “The Walking Dead.” You were just about to take your own life after realizing that you scared your own family away, and then, you found someone in Eugene who you could really cling to. He gave you a cause you could fully believe in once again.

However, what happens now that this has all fallen apart? Abraham learned the truth last night that Eugene has been lying this entire time about the mission, his qualifications, and so much more, and as you would think, this is going to cause some huge problems for the character.

Will this revelation cause Abraham to think more about his suicidal past, and have to deal with the emotions that he once suffered from? Based on what Michael Cudlitz told The Hollywood Reporter after Sunday’s episode, it certainly looks that way:

“They’re hand in hand. It was a lot easier to bury it in the mission. That’s why the mission was so important. The mission is purpose. The mission is a reason to live and to not think about what happened. It completely serves the purpose of burying that memory. But it resurfaces. It’s not always active moments; there are times when he’s left alone with his thoughts and you see that. The metaphor of the blood on his hands and the old wound opening — it’s all over it.”

We can only imagine things far worse for Abraham before he gets better, but who knows? Maybe he wants to lean now on Rosita, since there is a little bit of affection there. He hasn’t killed Eugene despite his strong desire to, so maybe there is a chance for this relationship to blossom again, as well.
