‘The Newsroom’ season 3: Aaron Sorkin plans to quit television following HBO series finale

Tomorrow, “The Newsroom” season 3 is going to be premiering on HBO, and it just so happens that this could also be the last bow for Aaron Sorkin on television.

The prolific writer has been behind great hits like “The West Wing” and the underrated “Sports Night,” but he’s also had some struggles. “Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip” was an epic disappointment, and this show did face some backlash from many critics for its tone. (Personally, we remain a steadfast supporter.)

In previewing this season in an interview with the Los Angeles Times, Sorkin, who has also written a variety of movie scripts, explained that he is getting set to move forward following everything that he has been through in this medium. After all, only one show was considered to be a smash hit:

“I’ve loved every minute I’ve spent in television. And I’ve had much more failure, as traditionally measured, than success in television. I’ve done four shows, and only one of them was the West Wing.”

We are going to miss Aaron on television, mostly because his work has such a different quality to it than you see on almost any other show out there. With all of this being said, we understand why he’d want out now. Not only are the critics brutal, but it is also an enormous amount of time and work when you are overseeing every single script that comes out. Sorkin was much more involved than the average showrunner.
