‘Shark Tank’ review: Bottle Breacher, the Natural Grip, Man-Pack, and Priority One Canine
Tonight’s new episode of “Shark Tank” had a variety of products, but most of them were largely revolving around one simple theme: The military. Every single product had some ties to one of the major branches, and a number of them even had purposes that either active-duty personnel or veterans could use in their daily lives.
The reason that some of these products could work, though, is because they could go a little more mainstream. We’ll have updates throughout the show, and you can click on any product name to go to their official website.
The Natural Grip – A new way to train. Basically, these are grips to make weight-lifting a little easier, but the debate here is whether or not there is broad appeal beyond just the Crossfit folks. We’re not familiar enough with weight-training to know, but it was interesting to see that this particular company wanted to keep more of their equity over go with someone like Daymond John, who has his hands pretty deep in the manufacturing world. With that in mind, a deal was made with Robert.
Priority One Canine – A new way to have home security … in the form of a trained dog. It a very impressive business in terms of what they are able to do. However, the biggest problem here is exactly what we’ve been saying all week. It is almost impossible to scale the business. These are only two people, and the only real way that they would be able to bring this to the next level would be to hire other people and spread this around. We didn’t get a big sense of that, and the sharks are right. This can be a great $2 million business for them down the line, but it’s never going to be worth the sharks’ time. No deal.
Man-Pack – A backpack with a very specific target audience. Ultimately, this was a big surprise to us. We thought going in that this was a pretty good product, and one that could be useful. however, a bad presentation ruins everything, and this was off in all directions. There was little business sense in here with his valuation, and he was trying to including even his YouTube videos in there. We still feel like a Man-Pack could be a useful product, but if we were an investor after hearing this pitch, we’d run in the other direction. No deal.
Bottle Breacher – A fun novelty, but is it anything more than that? This is almost the opposite of Man-Pack, at least in that we weren’t impressed at all going into the show, but came out feeling pretty good about their chances. While we wouldn’t have any interest in buying something that is designed to look like a bullet, we understand why others would. They got many offers, but in the end, a great one with both Mark Cuban and Kevin O’Leary. One of the best deals all season.
