‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 6, episode 6 review: What does Alaric’s change mean for Elena, Damon?
In some ways, tonight was yet another day at the office for “The Vampire Diaries.” After all, you had the return of a character from the past, a man capturing vampires while bringing them across a town barrier that strips away magic, and a brilliant doctor who managed to revive a guy and turn him from vampire to human at the same time.
That is one of the biggest revelations of the entire episode, as Alaric ended up becoming human again. That means one less vampire on the show, and thankfully one more human. We always did prefer Human Alaric than Vampire Alaric, especially since the latter brings back memories of the end of season 3 when he was basically a steroid-vampire killing everyone.
Jo managed to become a very likable person within this episode thanks to her actions saving Alaric, but Elena ended up facing a very tough revelation: Thanks to his transformation, she can no longer get some of her abilities back. She has to figure that out, and determine whether or not she really wants to get closer to this guy.
In the end, this was a pretty entertaining episode of “The Vampire Diaries.” It brought a great bit of action to the table, but there are also a few things that are somewhat distressing here still. For example, are Caroline and Stefan really going to not be friends anymore? That’s something we shudder at the thought of, and hopefully it will change soon. Grade: B.
