‘The Walking Dead’ season 5: Michael Cudlitz on impact of playing Abraham

Michael Cudlitz -Before being a part of this season of “The Walking Dead,” Michael Cudlitz could probably still feel like he was a well-kept secret within the industry. He was fantastic on “Southland,” but he was not one of the most well-known actors on TV.

However, he’s now a popular guy who is extremely recognizable as Abraham, the leader and fierce competitor whose primary goal is to get Eugene to Washington DC. There is still quite a bit we have to learn about the character, and those moments will come this season.

But what has Cudlitz learned from being on the show so far? Speaking to Fortune, he explains all of the positives that come with playing such a big role, but also what some of the other pitfalls that come with having everyone know who you are and what you are doing all of the time:

“In a lot of ways it’s been life changing. And certainly in some aspects, career changing. Playing a very iconic alpha male character on what happens to be the number one show in the world has brought a lot of eyeballs on me. And that means that in addition to having a lot of attention, there are a lot of fans who follow the show and support the show, and in turn want to follow and support you. I’ve been fortunate enough to have be doing this for 25 years professionally, and I’ve never had this kind of fan reaction to anything I’ve done in that entire time. Nothing’s even come remotely close to the response from the people who follow the show and watch the end product. I can’t go anywhere, especially in Atlanta. My private life is just going away and it’s been immense. And that translates into potentially down the road being able to take your fan base with you when you go somewhere else.”

One of the other problems that probably comes with this show is the simple feeling that you really cannot do much to change your appearance or style from one season to the next, since it is not like there is a barber in the zombie apocalypse waiting to give you a makeover.
