‘The X Factor’ UK: Stereo Kicks member Jake Sims in hot water over old tweets
Here is something that all contestants on singing shows, or really any person who ever has aspirations of stardom, needs to be aware of. At some point, almost everything that you ever say on social media can be held against you … and probably will.
This weekend, Stereo Kicks member Jake Sims is realizing this, as he has deleted his personal Twitter account and faced questions from the bosses with the show and ITV. Basically, it involves some messages that he posted over a year ago, long before even auditioning for the show, over using some recreational drugs. He also made references to crack, but it was clear that he was quoting a song rather than talking about using it himself.
There are some different ways to look at this. A part of us feels like if this is a part of his past, it is better to just look at this and use it as something to grow on. Even if this is a family show, kids need to know that certain things are wrong, and not everyone in this eight-person band is going to have a squeaky-clean reputation. We’d much rather have this sort of stuff acknowledged on the show than the same cookie-cutter packages about how this show means “so much” to the people trying out.
With all of this being said, the one thing that Stereo Kicks has to be sure of is that they don’t do anything to scare possible fans away. Right now, they need all the support possible after a week in the bottom.
