‘The Leftovers’ season 2 spoilers: Is there hope for Kevin Garvey, Nora Durst?

At the end of the first season of “The Leftovers,” things were not exactly looking great for Kevin Garvey and Nora Durst to be together. As a matter of fact, it felt almost like the rest of the show: Dismal. Kidding! Sort of.

The truth is, while this show does at times depress us greatly, we do still find ourselves hoping that these two crazy kids can find a way to pull their you-know-what together, and work towards being happy in the end. This is not an easy goal for them to achieve, but who knows? Maybe they will get there.

Speaking to TVLine, co-creator and showrunner Damon Lindelof did make it clear that this is a pair that he is invested in, and with that in mind, they are probably going to be in one another’s worlds once again when the show returns next summer:

“The audience is rooting for them, and so are we … Both characters have a tremendous amount of damage, and that stuff isn’t immediately apparent when you’re first falling in love with someone. But once you’re together with them, you actually have to start the work, and they’re going to start engaging in it.”

For Nora, we imagine that one of the biggest questions is going to be pretty darn simple: Whether or not she can actually allow herself to be happy. This is a woman who has surrounded herself with so much grief ever since the departure, and her status is in a way now tied to what she does for a living.
