‘Two and a Half Men’ season 12 premiere review: Duckie returns; Walden wants a kid
For the final season of “Two and a Half Men,” the show is going in a controversial direction … but they are doing with the same about of silliness that they approach everything.
The story here is so simple that we can describe it in the matter of a handful of words: Walden had a heart attack, and after looking at his life in perspective, he decided that he wanted to have a baby. Unfortunately, he realized not too long after that there were going to be substantial problems. He is a single guy, and regardless of his wealth and his success, the system is geared more towards married couples.
What was interesting about watching this story is that we knew where it was going, and that was eventually towards Walden deciding that he wanted to marry Alan just to prove to the system that he is qualified in every way to have a child. What we were impressed by was how the show made this world, and really set up the story in a way where it would be hard to accuse the show of making fun of same-sex relationships. It didn’t really matter that Alan was a man or a woman; the critique the show is making here is against the adoption process rather than gay marriage.
Also, Alan being married to Walden does open up some good comedic possibilities over the next few weeks that are going to be fun to explore.
To us, there is no question that “Two and a Half Men” is never going to be a truly amazing show. However, it’s silly fun and so long as you don’t take this whole story seriously, you’ll probably be entertained for half an hour. Grade: B-.
