‘Longmire’ season 4 notes: Trends, and how much hope one should have
We’re back with the latest edition of “Longmire” notes, even if we are still waiting (which seems to be a perpetual theme for fans these days) for some substantial news when it comes to the currently-canceled show.
We’ll start with some congratulations to all fans of the mighty posse who managed to get the show trending during the #MoreLongmire stampede on Monday. While trends are not the only thing that a suitor looks for, it is a valuable sign that there remains a smart, passionate following out there. The fact that they are still supporting the show so long after the initial cancellation news hit definitely means something.
This is where we come to following question: Just how hopeful should you be? Some outlets have used the Lou Diamond Phillips tweet below as a sign that renewal news is imminent, and we’re not going to go that far just yet. What we take it as is a sign that there are some good things happening behind the scenes for both the show and him, and they could lead to a renewal in the end. As we’ve learned, though, these things take time, and sometimes are predictable. We could find out about a season 4 tomorrow, or it could be January. The only real deadline here is February, which is when contracts expire for some of the cast. It’s even theoretically possible that after that something could happen with the show, but it would be a lot more complicated to wrangle together.
What we do feel is this: If it was looking like there were no properties interested in picking up the show, someone affiliated with studio Warner Horizon (an “anonymous source” or the like) would have already come out and said that the series is dead. The last thing they would want to do is drag things out if prospects were hopeless. In this context, waiting is definitely a good thing. So let us be patient, continuing to trend topics, and hoping for the best. That’s what has made this show a social-media phenomenon the past few weeks.

Longmire is my generations gunsmoke…a classic western style show. New and old at the same time. It could last as long …if a&e could see ahead…they want tv on the cheap! Where is the art in that…
