‘The Amazing Race 25’ episode 5 review: Shelley & Nici’s fight, big U-Turn decision
“The Amazing Race 25” tonight aired an episode that took place in Marrakesh, Morocco, and it was one that also contained a healthy combination of fun and drama.
The big headline at first, though, was the feud between Keith (of Keith & Whitney) and Shelley & Nici over how he handled himself at the end of a Roadblock. Was he a little obnoxious? Sure, but so were they. Basically, what we feel that this was ultimately was just a little bit of fighting over nothing, since this really did not make a big difference to the rest of the leg at all.
The larger question was what was going to happen when it came to the U-Turn, since one of these teams could have gotten revenge on another. Shelley & Nici got there first, but did they choose to go after the team they didn’t like, or one in Misti & Jim that could be more of an asset for them to hinder later? With the latter, the smart move was that in getting them to use their Save, you suddenly had a level playing field, and a chance for them to go home a little later.
Yet, U-turning Keith & Whitney was the right move because you knew that they were behind, and you could really hurt them. The only twist here is that they still had the power to U-Turn someone else still.
The winners of this leg (which seemed to be tightly-contained within a small area) were Kym & Alli for the second straight week, and they’ve quickly become our favorite team just thanks to their enthusiasm and their sense of humor over it all. It’s also nice that CBS cast some great all-female teams this time around. We like the #SweetScientists, even if we see very little of them.
In the end, though, the irony here was that Keith & Whitney would have lost the leg, anyway, even if they weren’t U-Turned. We cannot say that we’ll really miss them, even if they were a good source of drama throughout the season. Grade: B.
