‘Longmire’ season 4: See author’s explanation for A&E cancellation, future hopes
We are almost getting into the month of November, and we are still waiting to see whether or not there is a future for “Longmire” on any network, streaming provider, or anywhere else.
Are there some answers right now? Hardly, but there is some information that is being brought to the table right now via the book series’ author Craig Johnson. Speaking to K2Radio in an extensive interview, he made it fairly clear that discussions over ownership (the show is produced by Warner Horizon)could have been in part a major reason why A&E decided to pull the plug:
“A&E said if you don’t sell it to us, we’re going to cancel it. So Warner Brothers said, well that’s fine, you do what you need to do. So A&E canceled the show.”
This basically connects most of the dots that we had heard already about the cancellation, as it seems to be a combination of viewership, ownership, and A&E relatively distancing themselves from scripted fare that all played a big part in this.
As for the current process watching the show search for a home, Johnson made it clear just what the people at the studio are up to:
“Now, Warner Brothers and all the producers are out there re-pitching the show to a bunch of networks and services, and we’re just waiting to see what it is that’s going to happen … It’s interesting to see who’s in play, you know, who’s not in play.”
It is nice to know that all parties are still in “all systems go” mode to save the show, even if they don’t have a new home for the show yet. While it’s not a certainty, we still feel like the show has a good shot thanks to its overall audience, and the originality that comes along with a show like this. There really isn’t much else out there like it.

It’s a shame that quality shows such as Longmire get the axe while shows with poor writing or that tear down values live on. Networks and advertisers are all about the numbers. We need to present everything possible to them that would prove viewership numbers will be there. I believe our support for advertisers is key. In the day of the DVR I imagine it is increasingly more difficult for advertisers to believe they are receiving an adequate return.

That was the only show on A&E that my family watched! Hopefully, Netflix, USA, or even one of the “Big Three” will pick up this show! Well written, directed and acted! #LongLiveLongmire

Very cool of you guys to keep us up to speed like this. Amazing how much loyalty has bloomed in folks who’ve been touched by this show. I guess we really appreciate getting to share the stories of characters we recognize as genuinely human — and so deeply like and respect. Props to you always for standing up for Walt and the community he anchors. #LongLiveLongmire

We, supporters of Longmire, appreciate that you continue to provide updates on our wonderful show. Losing such an exceptional program after only three seasons just isn’t an option! The acting is awesome. The writing is excellent. The scenery has changed me forever! My bucket list now includes trips to New Mexico and Wyoming, particularly during Longmire Days! Keep up the good work and support of Longmire, and thanks so much.
