ABC’s ‘Scandal’ season 4 spoilers: Meet a man tied to Abby’s past

On “Scandal” more so than almost any other show out there, the past seems to come back to haunt you. We’ll just have to figure out soon if this is true when it comes to Abby.

Sources confirm that former “Battlestar Galactica” star Michael Trucco has been brought on board the hit ABC series for at least one episode as Charles Putney, the estranged husband of Abby who also has a very checkered history with her. Specifically, we are talking about how he was abusive towards her and even attacked her at one point after being incredibly drunk. He and Abby were married for four years before the incident, and this resulted in Olivia Pope going after him in her own way.

It’s not entirely clear what is bringing him back into this world at the moment, but we have to think that Olivia will once again be very protective of those she cares about … mostly because she almost always is. The only twist here is that she is not entirely in a position right now where she will be able to help exclusively with Abby at almost every turn, given that Darby Stanchfield’s character is fully entrenched at the White House as the new press secretary, which means that she does at times get left out of the loop. Meanwhile, all of Olivia’s gladiators have become reasonably scattered in the wind.

For Trucco, this should be a good cast. Usually he plays characters that are a little goofier, and this should enable him to show off more of his genuine acting chops.
