‘Doctor Who’ season 8, episode 9 video: Jenna Coleman’s Clara takes center stage
Saturday night’s new episode of “Doctor Who” is still many days away from airing, but that is not stopping there from being an unprecedented level of controversy surrounding it.
What’s the reason for that? Just look at the attached photo and video for this article, and the internet hate that is coming from the idea of Clara having the sonic screwdriver for a change. Jenna Coleman’s character may be counted on to be the her in “Flatline” so much more than ever before, and so much of this is a departure from the core of the series. After all, companions are typically called such just because they are … well, companions. Anything else is a shake-up to the formula to a certain degree.
With that being said, some of the freaking out over this is a little ways beyond the bounds of sanity. This could just be potentially a tiny moment in a much larger story, and it’s far too early for us to be commencing in any great panic attack regarding whatever the show has planned for this story. After all, it may not be anything that we really need to concern ourselves over much at all. Regardless, we’re personally excited to see Clara take the lead a little more, given that there are surely dozens of episodes to come where the Doctor is front and center in the spotlight. Plus, it’s likely that Coleman will depart the series long before Peter Capaldi, regardless of whether or not it is this coming season or later on down the road.
