‘Hell on Wheels’ season 4 video: A look inside that fiery scene

Hell on Wheels -It is typically around this time every week that we present a preview for the next new episode of “Hell on Wheels,” but there’s a problem this time around: No new episode on the weekend. This is something that we’ll probably discuss a few more times out of frustration until the show returns in November, though we understand AMC’s decision this weekend to put a massive “Walking Dead” marathon on instead. They do that almost every year before a premiere.

So instead of previewing the next new episode, we’re looking back at one of the sadder moments from “Return to Hell” this past Saturday: The burning of Ruth’s church, which also includes the death of the young boy Ezra. The video below offers up some further insight into how this fire scene was made, and some of the challenges that come with working with fire. There are also some cameos from many of the actors who went through the difficult scene, which took hours and hours of preparation (plus many people) to pull off within the Calgary area.

Given that there are still three episodes to go, we hardly feel like this is the last major stunt we’re going to see the show pull off. Just think, though, that in the past two episodes we had the train shootout, and now this.
