‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 6, episode 2 review: Did Alaric make Elena forget about Damon?
At the end of the premiere for “The Vampire Diaries,” we saw Elena Gilbert make a move that we never expected from her: She wanted to forget that she ever loved Damon Salvatore. Basically, it was yet another cop-out for her to forget about the pain after the initial drugs didn’t work.
It took a long time, but by the end of the episode, she finally got what she wanted with a turn: She had to admit in the process of forgetting Damon that she loved him even when she was with Stefan. While she didn’t cheat on her then-boyfriend physically, those feelings were still there. She just did not want to admit them to herself.
While all of this was going on, Damon and Bonnie realized that he was in the worst day of his life, which was not a particularly happy place for him to be. Given that the two don’t even like each other, this is bad news.
Speaking of people who don’t like each other, Enzo and Stefan came to blows over what was his decision to up and leave all of his friends and start over. This led to a nice moment between Enzo and Caroline, but no evidence that Paul Wesley’s character will ever come back.
Finally, we end with the bizarre story of Matt and Jeremy, who are squabbling over newcomer Sarah, this ridiculous “community protection agency,” and so much more. She is up to something suspicious, but so is Tripp. We learned in here that he actually has a connection to Dr. Fell, and therefore is a founding family member from Mystic Falls. Doesn’t that sound frustrating?
This episode established Tripp as a character to watch out for, but it’s just the tip of the iceberg. We did enjoy this episode, especially the cliffhanger at the end: There is someone else in that world with Damon and Bonnie. Grade: B.
