ABC’s ‘Scandal’ season 4, ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ season 11 score big with Twitter TV ratings

More scoop -This year, Nielsen is doubling down when it comes to releasing information about the relationship between Twitter and TV, and with that, we have the presentation of some ratings for this past week.

This data comes to us courtesy of Deadline, and while there is not a direct relationship necessarily between Twitter and a show’s total viewers, this does represent fanaticism, and there are ways that advertisers and sponsors can take advantage of that. More on that soon.

  • Scandal” was #1 both in unique audience (over 4.1 million) as well as total tweet measured (over 700,000). You already see how this sort of stuff is being monetized in the new clothing line at The Limited. Other shows with similar ratings may not get something like this, but there are clearly enough passionate fans out there that there will be a demand to get some Olivia Pope clothing.
  • “Grey’s Anatomy” and “How to Get Away with Murder” were both also in the top 10, which should be a reminder that Shonda Rhimes effectively owns social media.
  • With close to 3 million in unique audience, “The Voice” was #2, and the top reality show on the list. Given its ratings, it easily had a good chance of scoring big numbers.
  • “Gotham” was #3 with an audience reach of 2.7 million, and this is the best for any new show this year. We’ll be interested to see if that stays high now that everyone has seen the pilot episode. These things can change quickly.

We may not report on this every week, but we’ll have some updates here and there if there are some interesting developments.
