Even though the “Law & Order: SVU” premiere may not be airing on NBC until Wednesday night, Monday was big for Mariska Hargitay all the same. Why? She had an opportunity to appear on Bravo’s “Inside the Actors Studio,” and if you were a big fan of her going into her chat with James Lipton, you probably loved her even more by the end.
There were a variety of topics that were discussed over the course of the evening, but let’s go ahead and get through some of the highlights:
- It was really nice to hear Mariska discuss a little bit about Christopher Meloni, who was a big part of her life on the show for well over a decade. She had such kind words for him, and it made us miss Stabler already.
- Also, who else got choked up watching Peter Hermann in the audience? These two together for this rare TV occasion really upped the special factor.
- Mariska talked a little about her Joyful Heart Foundation, which we routinely think of as her paying everything that she does on the show forward and applying it to real life.
- There was plenty of conversation also in here about craft, the evolution of Benson, and what young actors can learn from her.
The interview was educational, but from an entertainment standpoint, it was a great look into what it was really like to play one of the most iconic TV characters out there. There are not many other roles that have lasted over a decade and a half that have evolved on the same level as this one.
