‘Hell on Wheels’ season 4, episode 8 reaction: Jake Weber, Jonathan Scarfe on latest surprises

What's next? -We feel like this weekend’s “Hell on Wheels” episode should be thought of mostly as a necessary building block. The events of this episode were essential to creating the narrative of the next few weeks, though few of them have paid off at this point.

In the video below, you can see a variety of the show’s cast members discussing some of what you can expect to see moving forward. This includes (for example) John Campbell (Jake Weber) making a big move in allowing Sydney Snow (Jonathan Scarfe) to be a Marshal of Cheyenne. Weber notes that Campbell is well aware of what kind of man Snow is, but that he is “desperate” now, and sometimes, you really need a bad man like Syd to take out other bad men. He is a pawn in a larger piece of the puzzle, and arresting many of the railroad workers is a way to ensure that he can someday seize control of the project, and no longer rely on the work of anyone from the outside of his authority.

Meanwhile, Anson Mount (Cullen) also touches on the story that leads to him picking up a gun, which he further describes as a “tragic moment.” Bohannon is starting to lose his wife Naomi (Mackenzie Porter) due to his actions killing Elam, and he is distancing himself further by going headfirst into the railroad. Above all else right now, he wants to feel like he is accomplishing something of substance, and this may be his way to do that. He just has an elaborate rescue mission to get through first.
